Lupus, or Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (try saying that after a stroke) inflames the linings around the major organs (heart, lungs, kidneys etc) and causes aching joints - similar to rheumatoid arthritis (frequently misdiagnosed as such) and sometimes does rather more than just threaten damage.

When I had first been diagnosed, not a lot of people knew about the disease and those who did offered words of encouragement along the lines: 'I knew someone with Lupus … they died!'  There are quite a few of us around and we seem to be doing okay.  As with any illness, you know yourself how hard you can push and when it is right to accept that some things simply can not be done.
