John had a stroke on 15 July 1995.

In his working life he had been a writer, journalist, director and educator.

In his private life he enjoyed acting and entertaining others with his witty stories and jokes.

These pages have been made by John using speech-to-text software on his home computer.

John speaks into a microphone and the computer types what he says; he finds it much easier to speak than to write.

John’s friend Mavis checks that the computer has heard him accurately.

But she never corrects his words or grammar, because John says ‘that’s who I am.'
