Feeling angry
After having a stroke, some people feel agitated, angry and upset.
This is a natural response. But sometimes injury to the brain makes it difficult to control angry behaviour.
Even months after the stroke it may be difficult to control your feelings and your behaviour.
This may upset other people.
What you can do:
- Remember that difficulty controlling behaviour and emotions can be one of the effects of the stroke.
- Try to talk about your feelings of anger with family members or friends.
- Try to work out what triggers these feelings and what you can do about it.
- Talk to your doctor. Discuss what things you can do to relax, and control your angry feelings.
- You might find relaxation or meditation helpful.
- Consider seeing a counsellor or psychologist. They might help you find ways of keeping calm or dealing with your feelings.
