Feeling tired
Tiredness and fatigue can be a big problem after a stroke.
In the early days and weeks, you may feel exhausted most of the time.
Even years after the stroke, you may still get tired very quickly.
Why?
- You may feel drowsy if particular areas of your brain have been affected by the stroke.
- Tiredness may be your brain's way of helping you recover, by making sure you don't take on too much.
- In addition, you have to put a lot of effort into concentrating, listening and talking. This can be exhausting.
Feeling tired after a stroke is not your fault. It is one of the effects of the stroke.
What you can do:
- Make a note of when you get tired and what things you find tiring.
- Don't take on too much at once.
- Make time for frequent rests.
- Arrange to do things when you are at your best... perhaps early in the morning.
- Don't arrange anything important for times when you know you'll be feeling tired.
- Some people find acupuncture useful.
