CAT scan or CT scan

Marge

"CAT scans are good at showing up whether you've had a haemorrhage. They can also show if something other than a stroke is causing the problem."

CAT is short for Computerised Axial Tomogram.

The CAT machine makes X-rays of your brain. It works very slowly. It takes many X-rays, section by section.

Some people have an injection of dye to make the X-ray clearer.

You have to lie on a narrow bed. The bed slides through a ring-like structure. You may have to lie still for a long time.
