Recovery from stroke

After a stroke:

Some people recover almost completely from strokes, usually in the early days, weeks and months.

After that, any recovery is slower and takes a long time.

Some people never get back to how they were before the stroke.

They have to learn how to live with the problems caused by the stroke.

Some people continue to be very ill after a stroke, and may die.

Peter

You may want to know how much better you will get. It may be impossible to tell, especially early on.

Hilda

Everyone is different. Comparing yourself with others may not help.

If you want to discuss recovery, ask your doctor.

Some questions you could ask your doctor

  • Will I get better?
  • How much recovery will I make?
  • How long will this take?
  • How can I help prevent another stroke?
