Aphasia and dysphasia
Sometimes aphasia is called dysphasia.
What's the difference?
In the dictionary, aphasia and dysphasia have different meanings:
- aphasia means 'total inability to communicate'
- dysphasia means 'impaired ability to communicate'
But aphasia and dysphasia are generally used to mean the same thing:
'difficulty with spoken and written communication following injury to the brain'.
On this website, we use the term aphasia.
